Help!!!! whats the differance between a major and a minor!!!??????

whats the differance? dont you get a 4 year degree in both????????

no you dont get two degrees unless you do a dual degree.. You can double major which is just a concentration in two subjects sometimes unrelated. A minor is the same as a major but you wont get a degree in it like you would a major and a major is more intense study. you can have a major and a double minor but the minors wont show up on the degree. If you get in a dual degree program youll be able to basically double major and get two degrees.

Your major is the subject you study the most. For example, If you want to be a teacher, you would take a lot of education courses, and Education would be your Major. The Education Department will tell you what classes you have to take, and what courses you can choose to take. But maybe you want to study Art History, too, so you'd take a bunch of Art History courses (not as many as you would for your Major) and that would be your Minor. You would get a 4-year degree in Education, with an Art History Minor.

A major is your main focus of study. That's what most of your classes are in. As an example, you could have a major in Business, and a minor in theater. Each will have a required number/specific classes you'll need to take, but the majority will be in business, in my example.

Your major is your main course of study. Your degree will be in that.

Your minor is a set of related electives you take. It won't show on your degree but they're quite useful in gaining additional skills and doing something a little more fun than your major.

a minor is a back up in case you have a problem getting a job with your major. A minor can also be a supplement to your major. Such as having a major in criminal justice and a minor forensic science
