why did you join yearbook class?
what do you need to be in the class?
what is your job/position?
why do you recommend?
i joined yearbook to get me and my friends in it more since freshman and sophomore year we were only in it for our mug shots. plus i love taking pictures and i am quite creative if i may say so myself.
you need a camera and camera cord. also the ability to write good copy and captions. also confidence to talk to people that you normally wouldn't.
i am a regular staff member, but the adviser told me i am going to be senior editor in chief next year.
first of all to get yourself and your friends in. second, you get experience working with photo-shop. its also fun putting together layouts and choosing colors. and thinking of a lot of creative ideas for your pages.

Is it possible to earn 15 high school credits in 1 year?
Things were screwed up with my homeschooling program. I'm supossed to be in 12th grade, but I'm 15 credits behind. I want to join the Marine Corps Reserve and they won't accept me with a GED, so it's my priority to get a High School Diploma.
I want to go back to high school and take online classes at the same time. I just want to know, do you think it's possible for me to gain 15 credits in 1 school year? I don't want to be 20 years old and still in high school. I want to join the Marines as soon as I possibly can.
hmm that is pretty tough seee what ur school offers i know mine has a COC class where students work and they get 2credits for the year then online classes will help and see if there are morning hour classes and afterschool classes at my school there is zero hour which is before regualr school starts there is a child developement class and weights class at that time and then afterschool classes vary maybe even see about summer school one guy last year they let him graduate but he had to do summer school to actually get his diploma
i think ur hope to join the marines is admirable so i wish u lots of luck :)
The people at guidance should give you some extra credit cources or something like that....
Anyways..."anything is possible"
:) okay not reallly, but i'm not going to lie, it may take more than one year.
You can try summer school, online and night or day schools.
I'm sure it would be pretty hard.
Maybe you could look into credit recovery? Like accelerated programs that get you a credit in like a month instead of 5.

How can I succeed in my next 3 years of high school?
In academics, athletics, try outs, extracurriculars. etc
High school has a lot involved. My freshman year was so different from junior high. You have to make sure that you always take school seriously and try your best. You should always challenge yourself as well. The number 1 thing that colleges look at is the rigorous courses you took. It is better to make a C in an AP class than an A in a regulars class. Get involved! Clubs and organizations look great on a college application and they also increase your social status and help you make friends. As for tryouts, don't be worried. Simply do your best and don't worry what others think. I am on my high school drill team and I didn't want to try out at first because I was a little nervous. I didn't know anybody, but I am SOOO glad that I went through with it. I enjoy it so much and I made great friends. Stay strong, and when things get tough, you must remind yourself to work through it. And most importantly... never give up! Hope this helps!!!
keep up with your work and make time to train for athletics and extracurricurlars just keep in mind that you wont have homework every day and sports are usually every other day and a lot of times extracurriculars can be during study hall just make sure you balance everything out
Time management, organization, good study habits, and a great attendance record in all of your classes and extracurriculars can help you.

How do i become motivated like her?
ok i have a friend. she's straight a's and a and NEVER missed a homework (except once in music but then she cried since she got a 0, but all my other friends did. the hw was kind of unannounced). she smiles so much and uses a sweet voice in front of the teachers. all the teachers LOVE her and say that she'll be successful. she's went to a learning center ever since she was 10 and shes in 8th grade now and is going to learn pre calc in the summer there since she has the money to. she's not smart smart but she tries really really hard. like if theres something like a quiz, she'll study for a couple of hours. she just studies all day and never gets distracted or anything, and she always does extra in projects but she doesnt really raise her hand a lot.
how do i become as motivated as her? she doesnt even watch tv or hang out or anything. like everything is about education and fitness. and she's skinny and knows how to control how much she eats.
like i dont want to overdo it that much, but how do i become more like her? i study only enough to get an A, so i'm not an overachiever and i dont do more than what's needed...
Don't stress yourself out, she is probably terrified of slipping lower and I'm sure she lives a panicky life inside. You seem to be doing very well without having to pressurise yourself (A's are brilliant in anyone's book), so enjoy the fact that you can get by on your smarts and don't need to force yourself to acheive.
I know how you feel, I struggle to motivate myself too, have always slid by on my intelligence, but finally (at the ripe old age of 26) am getting to grips with the fact that I'm acheiving pretty well considering I don't put any particualar effort in. I'm happy I'm so lucky as to be able to do that...
This no doubt comes from the fact that her parents are also driven to success. She was raised to not just do well but be the best.
Do you want to be the best? Do you want to be the CEO fo the company? Are you a winner or a whiner? Second place is just first loser. Now get out there and kick some butt!!!
Your on the right track, Id hang around her more, She seems to be a good influence..
Its good to see people who try to better themselves instead of all these people who are trying to collect as many things as they can before they die :)
good luck!!
if ur the 2nd like motivated, kill her and throw her in a dump. then u ll be as motivated as her. well to be first that is when shes in heaven (or....but i doubt it).
Obviously, be on time.
You are much more likely to get a good grade if the teacher knows your name and associates you with someone who pays attention.
People who don't speak up in class are at an extreme disadvantage. So, participate in class. Don't be one of those students that sits there silently all semester - you'll look dull and like you don't care. In class I think raising your hand to ask a question is more useful than raising your hand to answer one. Asking a question shows that you care, that you are thinking about what's being taught, and that you are not asleep :p
Sit in a clearly visible spot and don't change your seating location during the semester. Somewhere around the middle of the classroom is good, a couple rows back from the front. People who sit in the front row voluntarily tend to be know-it-alls who even get on the teacher's nerves in my experience - also they get overlooked by the teacher physically because it's awkward to look at someone so close while teaching. Back corner of the class says you don't care and want to sleep. Near the door says you're late or you're leaving early.
Talk to the teacher after class. It's a sure way to make sure they remember your name (in addition to raising your hand during class) and you win points if you can make interesting observations about what was taught. If it's not too awkward try asking them some things about themselves (why did you decide to study this? do you teach any other classes on this subject? etc.) but only ask if you really want the answer, people can tell when you're not genuine.
When you're in class, try to make sure you smile at the teacher. Many people's "concentrating" face is rather blank, and it must be quite intimidating to have a classroom full of people staring at you unsmilingly. Smiles are contagious and you can actually improve someone's mood by smiling at them.
Close to test time, chat with your teachers after class or after school...you are much more likely to give away information about what is on the test than they would be in the classroom.
... Advice other than professor-psychology tips - never underestimate the usefulness of study groups. Other people will have caught things during class that you missed. Other people's study methods sometimes work really well if only because they're different than what your brain is used to.
If you have many things to memorize (such as vocabulary) try associating each thing with a picture or action. The more strange it is, the better you'll remember it. With vocabulary I've personally found it's easier to remember words if they're in sentences, strange sentences work best. Though I've never had to use the Japanese word for "covered in" I will never forget it, because one of my classmates decided to use "a person covered in chocolate" as an example sentence.

Our school has these lunch and recess monitors, they have problems?
OUr school hired these older cranky and super mean ladies for lunch/recess periods. They are always coming up with stupid rules like: don't run on the mulch, you can't throw a plastic ball on the cement, no reading during recess, and other rules.
just ignore rude teachers
well since they just hired them recently then they must think you guys are really out of control
you guys need to solve that problem yourselfs because it is their school and their rules with their money just follow along and try to be good friends with the mean ladies... they are human too

Does anyone have any study skill tips?
I have a hard time sitting down and concentrating on homework or studying. I grudgingly get it done, but it's always a pain. I get distracted really easy. Does anyone have any tips? Thank you very much!
Here are some of my suggestions:
Set up a comfortable studying area. Some place where you will be at ease but is also not distracting. This can be accomplished by lighting choices (overheard, lamp, desk light, etc)
You can also achieve this by types of smells, such as candles (not as a main source of light), incense, etc.
Music can also play a factor. I'm personally the type that can NOT stand dead silence, and I work much better with some form of sound around, so playing something like soft jazz, new age, classical, etc can help with that (you also do not need to go out and purchase these items, where Yahoo! Music has radio stations for free. I use them in my classroom)
I also agree with the previous poster whom stated to have some new materials. You may be more inclined to sit down and get work done with some new paper, pencils, pens, highlighters, etc. New materials make things fun sometimes.
As for studying, I also had a hard time with that myself, and one of the best ways I got through it was making flash cards (using notes cards) and just writing down info and looking through them over and over again. But, I will also say, I'm a strong visual learner, so that was the best approach for me. Maybe you should find out what type of learner you are (if you don't already know...visual, audio, kinesthetic) and work your study/homework towards those modes.
sit in an empty, clean room and preferably sit down in a comfy chair. Buying something new like shelves or pens or even a lamp tends to get me in the studying mood to try it out LOL

Why should cell phones be banned in school?
I'm doing a research paper over why cell phones should be banned and I need as much details as possible.. please..
Here are some reasons I think they should be banned during school hours:
1. There's no reason a child needs to use a phone during class. If there's any sort of emergency, the student can call from the office. Students got along for a long time without phones on their person.
2. It gives students another medium to cheat. Cell phones seem to have replaced crib notes.
3. It's rude to have your phone ringing while someone is speaking (ie. a teacher or other student giving a presentation).
4. It's distracting. If you're in the middle of a test and the phone rings, it can distract everyone around you.
Those are a few reasons I could think of. I hope it helps. :)
cell phones are being banned bc instead of f'n listening to teachers they are txtin it up...people are so f'n stupid!!!! They should be able to have them in their bags, but turned off then if they need to call their parents, the schools have phones or they can use their phones with permission i never used my cell at school it was off and in my purse....so i am all for bannin them atleast til they get more responsible and not use them durrin class and listen for once
it shouldn't be banned. Students may need to call parents if emergency occurs. Its your opinion though. My only reason is because it might get stolen, broken, or taken away from an adult. And because students should get education instead of going on AIM.
it just shouldn't be allowed during class, but besides that they're important in case of emergency.
internet to potentially cheat, you attention focuses on something else, can get stolen. thats all i can think of

I really need guidance..... PLEASE!?
I dated this boy for a week and then he dumped me the day right before Thanksgiving. I never got over it, I still have feelings for the boy. Today, at the 6th grade dance, I found out that he was asking a girl out when he was dating me! I was so sad.....
I tried to dance with him and he totally ignored me. I am in tears and so sad.....
ADVICE?
you need to take out some of your frustration. there is nothing you can do to change how he thinks about you so i suggest that you just get over it. find one of your Friends and sit down and talk about then go out and do something destructive but legal. When i get angry i go out and play golf it is usually a really bad game but, hitting the ball really hard always makes me feel better. maybe you should take up a sport.

Kindergarten Easter Art Project??
Any ideas on what I can do for a cute Easter art project with my kindergartners??????? Any ideas would be helpful.
Get a stamp pad and have them use their thumbprints to make the bodies of bunnies or chicks. Draw on faces, ears, feet with pens.
Or print out giant eggs (8 1/2 X 11) and have them decorate using fingerpaint.
Make bunny heads out of paper plates. Use whole one for face, cut part of one for ears, strips of paper for whiskers
Purchase, or see if your school has foam sheets in pastel colors and cut them into shapes of easter eggs and have the kids decorate them using various embellishments.

What department at high school helps a student get a job?
Do high schools have these kinds of departments? I don't think its the guidance department.

4 APs or no? High school help?
I'm enrolling for 4 APs during my junior year, I haven't taken any APs in my sophomore year but I'm getting As in my college prep classes easily and I was curious whether taking 4 is really that impressive to colleges. If I take 4 APs, my elective classes for the semestrs are going to be simple throw away classes, one of which isn't even UC approved.
Is it better that I just succeed in 4 APs or go easier with myself and bump APUSH into a US History Honors class and follow other electives?
Oh and I actually like the AP subjects I'm taking so don't tell me "don't take AP classes simply because they're AP"
If you like the AP classes you plan to take, then take it. It will impress colleges only if you do well in them. Since you are not taking any
AP classes right now, the workload you'll have for next school year might overwhelm you. However, if you have good study habits and time management, you'll be able to handle it.
Taking four APs are definitely impressive to colleges, but ONLY if you do well in them. However, if you enjoy the classes, you should take them anyway!
i s it advanced placement or another AP because my school thers a difference
Yeah, it looks better particularly if you are wanting to go to a Top 25 university.

Should i make a birthday card?
It was my teachers birthday friday. We are pretty good friends i guess. But we hav been on springbreak so i didnt get to make him a card for his actual bday. We come back to school on monday. Should i make him a card and give it to him then or would that be too weird or awkward?
I always cherished anything I received as a teacher. I even have some things framed and hanging on my walls after 30 years. Just make it tasteful and thank him for making a difference in your life.
if you are good friends by all means give him the card
just dnt act lyk its weird when you give it to him
u should totally because friends are friends, but the ones that show they care are great friends:)
Yeah, give the card. I gave my teacher chocolates for Christmas cos we were friends.

What clique were/ are you in at school?
I am doing a project on cliques and i want to know some of the clliques there are
I don't think im in a clique but there are definitely cliques apparent in my school. There are the beach kids who all rich, the sport fanatics, the really girly girls, the asian wannabe group (quite sad, they love manga and one even dressed up a samurai on a mufti day), the rejects, the gossipers, the attention seekers/ really bad kids who get suspended, the sluts, the nice groups, the smart and nice group and all the other random groups.
Btw this is an Australian perspective.
In my high school, there were two major cliques: the socialites and
jocks formed one and the intellectuals and ROTC boys formed the
other. I belonged to the latter.
I'm not really apart of cliques but at my school we have a few like, the swim team hangs out with the swim team only, the Volley ball players only hang out with Volley ball players etc

Can someone please help me... Its for my school coursework i need to know how long these two things take!?!?
By the way can you also give me the like amount of days/ years ect.... thanks.
Bassically...
How long does it take for the computer people too track you down and search for you ^^ Like the police peoples^^
When....
1. When your on an illegal site... do they react quickly??
2. When someone is being perverted on the internet and you report them or even if it was someone important in your life like..... say a teacher? How long would it take for them to track down the teacher or you to get info??
Thanks... I hopw this made sense..... Its just how long it takes for them to take action.
Be alert and honest of how you feel. If you saw someone in an illegal site then report it to the authorized person to sue them even if they are close to you.
Nice try. As already said, don't do it and you won't need to find out.
don't do it and you'll
'll never know
Bassically...

Should Glaswegian children be given lessons in etiquette and how to speak properly at school?
Or, as adults, at the Job Centre?
How dare you use offensive language....."JOBCENTRE" and "GLASWEGIAN"
All children should be given lessons in etiquette which after all is only manners and everyone should be taught to speak properly. Speaking properly does not necessarily mean getting rid of accents though but being able to communicate. I don't know why you picked on Glaswegian children because if there is a problem it is nationwide.
It's rather narrow-minded to assume the entire population of Glasgow is unemployed and unintelligible. There are many different dialects and to suggest people should be ashamed of where they come from is, frankly, heinous.
I like the glaswegian accent!
I also think 'accent correction' is a little racist as there is no correct way to speak. Your way of speaking is unintelligible to others.
No you can never remove a strong accent like Glaswegian. It would be the same as trying to remove the scouse accent from Liverpudlians.
We speak beautifully.
Why are we picking on Glasgow here. In my experience Glaswegians are amongst the most friendly and polite people in the UK. Now, Londoners............
Not unless they intend leaving to find work.
and perhaps racism, something you clearly don't understand

Anyone else doing their Standard Grades this year?
What subjects are you doing? What results did you get in your prelims? How much revision have you done so far?
I haven't done very much revision but now I'm starting to worry... 5 weeks!!
i aaaaaaam :\
im doing english, maths, french, modern studies, physics, art, accounting&finance and product design(int 2).
i got a 1 for maths and 2s for english, modern studies, physics. 3s for art and french and a A1 for product design.
i have kinda started revision, but maths has given us loads of homework to do, so has modern studies and accounts. ive given up on french and ive got a physics tutor so shes helping me loads. product design is just too easy to revise and god knows how people in my class get Cs and things.
im scared too. at my school we have 15 school days left because of easter and things. and theres countdowns on all of our screens in the school and its so scary.
i hate how maths is the first one, except art which is for me the 28th april..
gooooooooood luck :]

What can i do, sometimes feel like i dont belong?
i moved to a different state recently, and im in High school, the problem is the age groups of education there, im a yr older than most kids in my grade (the state has a different age system), so according to my new state, im acutally supposed to be a grade higher but not according to my before state, this stresses me a lot coz sometimes i feel like im too old or dont belong, in sports im never with my classmates and this really gets annoying eventually, and i dont feel like telling ppl my age coz they might think im dumb thats why im older
need help to get over this
although im average - smart i cant skip a grade coz im in High school
e.g
born in november 2000, and my classmates range from august 2001 - july 2002
with my former state ranging from august 2000 to july 2001
which means ppl are a yr older but still in the same grade
u cant hide age at skool coz somehow it always comes up, and for some reason i think ppl and teachers think less of me for being older coz then they might think his only smart coz his older (i know its weird but i dont know wat to do or think)
don't stress over something that is really small. I'm a year older then most of the people in my grade because of the cut off date. i was born in 1993 while my friends were born in 1994. it does seem strange sometimes, but eventually the feeling passes. You should talk to your guidence consulor. she could probably help. And for the sports, just think of it as meeting new people. your just expanding your friend circle. Also, remember that its only high school. soon you'll be going to college where the age differences range from being 18-45. i hope this will help you and you feel more confortable with the situation.
don't worry about it so much...
i had a classmate that was 10 yrs. older than us... because he stopped schooling... but he didn't have problems relating with us... and we never said anything offensive to him, we just laugh at it but not to the extent that would really offend him...
don't worry, that's just in the beginning, just be yourself and you'll get the hang of it later on...

Help!!!! whats the differance between a major and a minor!!!??????
whats the differance? dont you get a 4 year degree in both????????
no you dont get two degrees unless you do a dual degree.. You can double major which is just a concentration in two subjects sometimes unrelated. A minor is the same as a major but you wont get a degree in it like you would a major and a major is more intense study. you can have a major and a double minor but the minors wont show up on the degree. If you get in a dual degree program youll be able to basically double major and get two degrees.
Your major is the subject you study the most. For example, If you want to be a teacher, you would take a lot of education courses, and Education would be your Major. The Education Department will tell you what classes you have to take, and what courses you can choose to take. But maybe you want to study Art History, too, so you'd take a bunch of Art History courses (not as many as you would for your Major) and that would be your Minor. You would get a 4-year degree in Education, with an Art History Minor.
A major is your main focus of study. That's what most of your classes are in. As an example, you could have a major in Business, and a minor in theater. Each will have a required number/specific classes you'll need to take, but the majority will be in business, in my example.
Your major is your main course of study. Your degree will be in that.
Your minor is a set of related electives you take. It won't show on your degree but they're quite useful in gaining additional skills and doing something a little more fun than your major.
a minor is a back up in case you have a problem getting a job with your major. A minor can also be a supplement to your major. Such as having a major in criminal justice and a minor forensic science

What do you think
Thoreau describes it as opening up your mind, what do you think?
That's accurate.
If your mind is closed, or you're sleepwalking through life, it's as if "day" hasn't dawned ... and only when one "wakes up" will dawn (life) arrive.
It means that you will never learn something unless you keep an open mind.
You won't recognize new thoughts or ideas unless you are receptive and aware.
MEANS....WHEN WE FIND THE REAL MEANING OF SOME PUZZLED MATTER WE FIND THAT WE ARE TOO....... LATE.....AS AT DAWNS WE AWAKE....!!!

Im going to fail out of college.?
Im currently on academic probation and im not going to be able to pass this semester. Im wondering, what are my options? can i go to community, get my GPA up and then return to the same university? what are the chances they would re-accept me after having failed out, or should i just go to a different one altogether?
any help would be appreciated, thanks.
The chances of getting re-accepted by the same university after being dismissed academically are almost nil, unless you wait a long time and it is clear that whatever issues or problems you had before have been addressed and resolved completely. You would probably have to go to a community college anyway at this point, but after getting your associate's degree I would recommend applying to different colleges which are more in line with what you plan to do.

Why do kids have to wear uniforms?!?!?
Some schools are making kids wear uniforms and I think that is messes up, because clothes are a way to express your self and it wrong to take that away!!!
i know it is dumb. my little sister is about to start wearing them next year, i think its way dumb. I mean public schools should not have to wear uniforms. Parents should not be forced to buy an ugly outfit for their child.
your right its a way of expression... but i guess some people believe its not fair that kids are made fun of for the clothes they wear.
ugh
Well, why in the world are they making you all wear uniforms for anyway. You won't tell anyone apart. Sorry to say, but you all have it bad. I saw this at my work yesterday and you should be allowed to express all your opinions. I think they forced you all to wear uniforms b/c of policy.
i think it is to give kids a sense of unity and belonging. it shows that no body is better than somebody else because of the clothes they wear.
Equality, apparently
no one wont be made fun of because of it.

Should sign language be taught as a foreign language course?
In high school, Spanish and French are examples of foreign language courses. Should sign language also be taught too?
Definitely. I mean, it's a language that one doesn't normally speak, making it foreign. I have a friend who is fluent in English and sign language and is considered bilingual.
Well, not really. I think that it would be a good idea to offer it in schools, but it's not really a foreign language, since it is another medium for the English language. Therefore, it is not foreign by definition of the word. However, I do think it could be offered as a language course by itself, but I don't think it should count for foreign lanugage credit.
I think that it should. I mean, sign language is probably more useful than say, French or German. It should definitely count for a foreign language.

Can you write a child
This one is my kid story hope you like so far others have liked
The mouse and the big old ugly cat
There once was a mouse named Red and he lived in a house with a big ugly cat named Brat. Red was walking along the wall of the pale yellow house when he came along the big ugly cat while he was taking his daily walk to the pond to catch some little tiny fish.
Then out of the corner of the cat eye he saw the little mouse named Red he walked along hoping to trick Red to stay there but Red was already one step ahead of him. He had switched himself with a clone of himself while he made a run for his hole in the living room.
When Brat lunged himself to where the clone was all he did was hit a medal mouse and started to cry in pain but, he did have one advantage and that was that he had heard a snicker from behind the box that had once held his owners old baseball cap and ball. He smiled with all of his sharp teeth in a sinister way.
As he made his way to the box he heard his owner Mrs. Todd and her husband Mr. Todd walk in with his favorite food tuna flavored Kat nip. He ran towards the kitchen where they pulled out a bowl with his name on it. He licked his lip and started to chow down then he saw Red making his way to the hole , he chose quickly to finish and then catch the mouse but it was too late the mouse had already made his way to his hole and was tucked in by his mom named Tilly .
The mouse gently snoozed as the cat tried to figure out a way to get into the hole and get the little mouse that had been an annoyance for many year but he never seemed to get in and he is still trying today but has never come a 4th of an inch closer. Though it been 5 years since anyone seen Red the cat believes the old mouse is still in his hole taking care of his own little mice, wife , and shrived up mom who will soon die. And as for his dad his dad had died many year ago after he ate some bad cheese if you know what I mean .
I'm sorry, but I didn't like it. It doesn't seem like a great children's story to me. Unfortunately, I am not a writer myself, so I have no story to write for you.

How much free time does a doctor have in college?
I am in high school as of right now and there is a very good chance I will play college basketball, I have already received many scholarships to schools because of my athletic ability. To cut to the chase, my question is would it be possible for me to play hoops and study to become a doctor at the same time.
There is no such thing as a pre-med major. As an undergraduate, you major in anything you want, as long as you meet the requirements for medical school. Pre-med is just a set of classes you take to make sure that you are able to apply to medical school.
As an undergrad, you should be able to have enough time to do a sport and do well in your classes. When you go to medical school (after getting your undergraduate degree), that's when you won't have much time for outside activities.
Make sure you get real world experience as an undergrad (shadow doctors, volunteer at hospitals, do internships). Experience is what will set you apart from other med school applicants. And keep your grades up. Aim for a 3.5 or higher.
You could have enough time depending on when you have your classes. If you plan to go only two or three days you might have time. Medical school is after the first four years so there is time after that.
Most pre-med majors are not too hard. It is med school that takes a lot of studying.

How to get to classes... and stop being lazy?
I have been missing so many classes, because I seriously lack motivation to go. I get to tech then I skip the class and study in the library instead, or even just go back home. The thought of being in the classroom scares me, I'm not sure why. Even though I carry on studying, I'm slowing falling behind. Am I lazy? How can I stop being lazy and go to classes? The tutors are starting to question me and I'm freaking out.
I tried to see a counselor but it didn't really help. I just don't want to go! Well I do... but I don't want to go more than I want to go.
So, cut school and start working with the people in fastfood. Try and get an apartment based on that income verification. Have every travel company deny your application to join any tour because you are broke. Apply for a car loan and get declined because fastfood is not going to finance a living wage.

Can someone explain to me the difference between a masters, doctorate, and bachelors degree?
and a undergraduate minor and major. What does all of this mean?
An undergraduate degree is the first degree you will get at university. They are usually 3 or 4 year degrees and are called bachelors degrees. Your major and minor are the areas of study that you are interested. If your majoring in biology, the majority of the courses you need to take are biology related, etc.
Masters degrees and doctorate degrees are graduate degrees and come after your bachelors degree. If you wish to pursue further education after your bachelors degrees, you get your masters and then finally your doctorate (PhD)

Should I study Bachelor of Science in Information Technology in Security or just B. S. Information Technology?
A B.S. in Information Technology for Security may be too focused and limit your ability to apply for jobs later. A B.S. in Information Technology would allow a broader base with more opportunities at graduation.
Do you want to specialize in security for your career?

Okay, so i'm planning to take journalism in college and need to know which of these three California state colleges would be the best out of:
Northridge
Chico
San Francisco.
These are the ones I know have a greater focus on journalism and any good advice or info, etc would be greatly appreciated.
These are all good schools. The trick is to find the one where you will fit in best, and have the most opportunity to get what YOU need from the program. Make a list of the stuff that's important to you, and what experiences you want to have (internship, working at the paper or radio station, specific classes or technology you'd like to earn, study abroad options for journalism majors. etc..), the type of environment you'd like to be in (collaborative vs. competitive) and from that list frame the questions you'd like to ask. Next, check out the student newspaper, radio station, and student-run publications at each school. Contact the students who work at at these and talk with them. I'm sure they will be happy to talk to a prospective student, and give you honest feedback as to what it is like being a student there. College "A" might have a great program, but a totally dysfunctional newspaper (where most journalism students get their first "real" experience) college "B" might have a great newspaper, but the people who work there are all exclusive and there is an air about the place that you can't stand. College "C" might have awesome internship opportunities with the local paper / magazines/ etc... Anyway, I'm sure you get my drift. Keep notes when you interview them (like a journalist!) and use that to help you make your decision. Hope this helps and best of luck to you!!
I'd have to go with SF.

Find homeschool groups in your area. very often, homeschool groups organize field trips and social gatherings. Also check with local businesses. Many times skating rinks, bowling centers etc offer homeschool days each week or each month.
Just get out into the homeschool community and find the activities that interest you.
there are activities at the library that might be interesting to you. groups meet in the park system for nature walks bird watching and things, get out your bike and go on the trails.
it might call for you to be a little more outgoing to make friends, like you might have to make the overatures to others, but there are things to do
Try Cheerleading..you can use your skills from gymnastics and then learn alot more. It is really funn and you can met alot of people.

How do I find antecedent and personal pronouns?
I have these sentences
1. Alice asked Henry if he had brought his bike.
2. Paul baked his parents a cake for their party.
3. The twins took their skis with them.
4. Jody put down her pencil when she was finished.
5. Dad helped the Grants select their new piano and move it into the house.
6.The fans rose to their feet when they realized that the ball had gone over the fence.
7. The movie doesn live up to its ads, but it does have an exciting ending.
8. Tracy enjoyed her trip and was sorry when it was over.
9. Ned decided he would order cake since it looked so good.
10. Ellen helped her brother find his baseball.
And I am supposed to highlight TWO personal pronouns in each sentence, then change the font color of each antecedent to match the color of its personal pronoun.
How do I find those?
I am not asking anyone to do these for me, just help with them, some examples or something.
Thanks.
The antecedent is the word being replaced by the pronoun. If I say: "John likes his cocoa hot," the pronoun "his" is replacing the antecedent "John" so that we don't say: John likes John's cocoa hot.
So...in sentence one, Henry is the antecedent being replaced by he and his. (Otherwise, we'd be saying: Alice asked Henry if Henry had brought Henry's bike. )
In number two, the subject, Paul, is being replaced by the pronoun "his" AND the indirect object (parents) is the antecedent being replaced by the pronoun "their."
See if you can do the rest.
There can be multiple pronouns to one antecedent. A pronoun is anything that can replace a noun, like "he" can substitute for "Bob."
1. Alice asked Henry if he had brought his bike.
Pronouns are he and his, antecedent is Henry.
2. Paul baked his parents a cake for their party.
Pronouns are his and their, antecedent for his is Paul, antecedent of their is parents.
3. The twins took their skis with them.
Pronoun is them and their, antecedent for both is twins.

What should my next course of action be?
I am a recent college graduate, working abroad; and I am wondering what I should do next. My ultimate goal is to be an English professor at a community college; so I know that I eventually need to get my Masters or PhD. However, I am SO burnt out from my BA and from my current teaching job abroad, that I am planning to take a year off after I return back to the States.
The only problem is that I don't know what to do during that year. I would LOVE to just work at a coffee shop, or something low-key (non-teaching/english related so that I can refresh myself); but realize that might not look good on my Graduate School applications. Would departing from my "field" for a year before attending graduate school be risky? Is there anyone who currently works at a community college or has teaching/graduate school experience that can give me some helpful suggestions? Thank you in advance for your help!!
A coffee shop sounds nice or maybe you could make money waiting tables or maybe you could just take a one class or two at college so its like you have the year off

BOOKS about why American college students pay for tuition while students in other countries pay little or none?
I need a book where its an actual expert about the increase in U.S. college education opposed to the free price students pay in other countries for a quality education.
I don't know a book specifically, but you should search separately for books on college education in European or other countries (though Europe is probably the best example) and college education in America. I'm sure there are plenty out there, even if you have to read two separate books to get all the info you need. I will tell you that most Europeans pay nothing because of the socialist system there--taxpayers pay into it, and as a result, the whole country (France, Spain, whatever) is educated for free.
I don't know if you mean, students in other countries going to schools in their home country or students from other countries going to school in the US. You need to clarify. If it's the latter, you might be hard pressed to find books proving this; since it's pretty much not true. International students, who attend colleges in the US pay way more than US citizens do.

Regarding OPT period?
hi i am an international graduate student in engineering in the United States.
i am graduating on the 13th of June, and thinking about working in the US during OPT. I know we can choose the start date within 60 days after graduation, which is 12th of August at the latest, i am worried that i can not get an offer from company by 12th of August.
We can have three months unemployment right? Can we have this period without having the first job? I mean, can we look for a job until November 12th? or do we have to get to 1st work by the 12th of August otherwise we have to leave the US?
The deadline for you to find a job would be within 3 months of the date listed on your EAD /OPT card. You can count 3 months after that date on the card and determine what your deadline would be for you to have a job by then.

IS IT HARD TO DOUBLE MAJOR? DOES IT COST MORE IN YOUR TUITION????? OR WILL I STILL PAY THE SAME SUCH AS 9,000 IN UCLA???
I double majored and graduated in 4 years from a prestigious school. It is not hard and shouldn't cost you more. Instead of taking one or two classes that "interest" you or "just for the hell of it" you need to be taking classes in both of your majors every term. It makes it nice though if you are actually interested in both of your majors because it prevents you from taking some mistake of a class you can't stand - instead you are interested in all of your classes every day.
The easiest way to double major is to get college credit for your AP classes in high school. You usually need to get scores of at least 3 on your AP exams to get college credit (some schools only give credit for 4s and 5s). Not all schools give credit for AP courses (the Ivy League schools don't), but many state universities will give you college credit and allow you to skip the basic entry level courses in some subjects. That allows you to move on to the courses required for your majors.
If you have to take more classes to complete both majors, then yes, it will cost more. I am a double major... it's difficult because I have had to plan my semesters out ahead of time to be sure I complete both on time, but I have two more semesters left and I'm done with one completely and 15 credits (3 classes) away from finishing the other.
My daughter did a double major. It still took 4 years and cost us the same. However, it meant she could party on Saturday nights as she was too busy working on the other nights.

Know any universities that are good for biology?
Also what grades and subjects do i need to get in there?
thanks
xx
to do biology you need to do biology and chemistry at A level. Birmingham uni is okie not great but okie. you will usaly need AAB in A levels A in biology, A in chemistry, B in anything elce.
Anglia Ruskin in Cambridge is good for Biology. To get in you need a good score in Biology and then fair scores in 2 other subjects.
Good luck!
If you live in the UK then maybe Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh?
I'm gong to that one!
In the USA, Chatham in Pittsburgh is one of the best.

Full time and Part time student difference?
I am 19 yrs old, currently a Full time student taking 4 classes
3 classes which are 3 credit hours, and 1 class which is 5 credit hours, so a total of 14 credit hours.
I want to drop one class, which leaves me with 11 credit hours and becoming a Part-time student.
What would this affect? Would it hurt my degree plan? Would it affect my health insurance if I drop out of a class in the middle of a semester? Would it affect my GPA?
I go to University of Houston if that helps anything.
Any more information on Full time and Part time student differences would be appreciated.
Thanks.
It definitely can affect your financial aid. Re-read the conditions of the loans/grants/scholarships you received to see if they require you to be a full-time student. Many of them do. There is aid for part-time students, but it's less than for full-time students.
It won't change your GPA, but the class may or may not show up on your transcript. If you drop before a certain date, the class won't show up on your transcript at all. It'll be like you never signed up for it. However, if you drop after that date, you will have a W on your transcript. It won't affect your GPA, but having a W does raise some questions.
This may or may not affect your degree plan. If this class is required for your major, then you will have to take it again at some point. At my school, there is a policy that you may only sign up for a class twice. So if you sign up, then drop out, that counts as one of the two times you can take that class. If your school has this policy, then think very carefully before signing up for this class again.
You also should look at your four year plan and see if you have space in your schedule to sign up for this class again. Some majors (such as engineering or double majors) are very restricted to the four year plan and can't retake a class and still graduate on time. Others have a lot of leeway, especially as an upperclassmen.
Being a part-time student may also affect your health insurance (and car insurance if you have that). Full-time students often have a reduced price for insurance compared to part-time students. Again, this may not be the policy with your insurance company, so definitely check with them.
I suggest you talk to your academic advisor and someone in the financial aid department, especially if you get money from the school.
Yes it would definitely affect financial aid. You will need to be a full-time student to receive financial aid. You should stick it out. Next semester just take 12 credits total, the 5 credit hr class is a lot. If you drop a class then you will have to spend perhaps a extra semester or year at the university trying to make up for the classes you dropped.

Are high school graduation requirements too much now?
To graduate I needed something like 4 years of English, 2 years of math, some science, government, history, and geography credits, and the usual elective credits (arts, phys. ed, foreign language, etc). My younger brother on the other hand needs 4 years of English, 4 years of math, 3 years of science, 3 years of social studies, and all the usual elective credits. The high school we go to is pretty big (about 1500-1800 students) and has a lot of fun, interesting classes for students that aren't necessarily required but now they seem kind of useless seeing as how they have to get in all of those credits in in 4 years. What do you think?
I'm glad they are boosting the requirements, there are way too many brain-dead morons in this world. Maybe if they sit in the classes enough some of the material will soak in.
I graduated in 1995 and I had to take:
4 years English (I took 4)
3 years Math (I took 4)
3 years Science (I took 4)
2 years of foreign language (I took 4)
3 years history
1semester Govt and Econ
1 year Health
3 years P.E.
and regular, old electives

Anybody needs easy points? if u know the answer...give it a try?
what is the difference between a termination and a layoff letter?
termination means you have been fired you no longer have a job, and will not have the opportunity to come back. Lay off means, you currently no longer work there, but will be called back to work at a later time, when you industry or demand picks back up. during a layoff you can receive compensation via unemployment, you cannot with a termination.
A layoff would redundancy, where the employer no longer needs the job so gets rid of the person. For instance, if a company had less orders than they expected and got rid of a few staff to cut costs.
Termination is more likely to refer to being fired for misconduct.

Should I drop out of school?
I am in college at a great institution and am very disappointed with my academic performance in comparison to high school. Every term I get a c and once a d in one class and can't seem to ever get As. I feel like I tried harder this term and managed to get B s, but I still got a C in a class. I am a sophomore and feel like giving up. No grad school or medical school is ever going to want me
Dropping out won't fix that, especially if that's what you want to do with your life. try harder. Seek help. Get a tutor. See a guidance councilor.
Maybe the school or the degree that you're working on is not for you. Is it a large school that you're attending or a smaller one? Maybe you should transfer to another school that you think might work for you but do not drop out. Companies look at whether you have a degree when they offer you a job. You will need something to fall back on in the future.

I need an awesome speech topic asap!?
my friend has a great i dea and i have nothing i feel so pathetic i don't want to do something that sucks! I need something that is coll my friends doing the oscars which is coll i want domething like that but exzctly because then it would be like copying right? nothing like abuse abortion marriage drugs violence no freaky stuff please help! i'm in grade 8 by the way!
Speech topic? How about something relevant, like talking about Obama and how it might change the world. It will obviously alter life in America, but I think our relations with America will improve changing our lives, as well as giving the world, and especially ethnic minorities, hope.
Or you could talk about a medical issue, or an issue about poverty? This could be poverty in the UK or in another country.
To be honest, I think the oscars is a pretty rubbish topic - here's your chance to show that you're more mature than your friend.
If you do want something more main-stream and in popular culture, how about talking about your favourite film and all the work involved in making it? Something like Lord of the rings could keep you talking for hours! Stunt men, models, special effects, filming on-scene in new Zealand... Or a band?
do a speech on golf... it's become a bit of a craze.
and personally i think it's the strangest sport-- you hit down and the ball goes up, you swing left for the ball to go right, the lowest score wins, and the winner buys the drinks!
madness! :)

Help me rephrase this please?
The Cori's have been consistently interested in the mechanism of action of hormones and they have carried out several studies on the pituitary. They observed that the marked decrease in glycogen and lowering of blood sugar in hypophysectomized rats occurred with a concomitant increase in the rate of glucose oxidation. Subsequently, by a study of the action of hormones on hexokinase, they observed that some pituitary extracts inhibit this enzyme in vivo and in vitro and that insulin counteracts this inhibition.
It doesn't seem to need rephrasing. What would be the object of rephrasing? Everything flows quite logically from the initial statement about the Cori's consistent interest in hormones. If you're feeling anxious about it, don't be. It's OK.

'financially wise' I would say NYU.

Question about the GRE verbal section?
about 95% of the words in the GRE study books I%26#039;ve never even heard of! My biggest fear is that I%26#039;m going to spend all this time to memorize the definitions for all thse words, and then get to the exam and find that none of them were on it! So my question is, are the words found in these so-called study/prep books really going to appear on the actual GRE test? Is there another way to learn new words that may appear on the test?
Oh, yes, they will actually appear on the test - and what%26#039;s better, is that 50% will appear on the test, while the other 50% will be brand new and just as incomprehensible and unknown to you as the others. You need to focus on studying the roots of words - I don%26#039;t know which book you%26#039;re using, but buy a book that is specifically for the verbal section and that focuses on the Latin roots and meanings of each specific word. You need to know how to look at a word and tear it apart to find out its definitions. I found the Kaplan GRE Verbal Workbook to help me out a ton. I actually did really well on the quantitative section - when I%26#039;ve always been horrible at math - in comparison the verbal (my undergraduate major was political science and European history - i.e., lots of writing and verbal attention!) and it made no sense at all. Honestly, it%26#039;s tedious and almost entirely useless (I%26#039;ve been in graduate school for almost a year now and I have yet to actually use anything that I learned and/or tested on the GRE), but you need it to get into the graduate schools of your choice so hunker down and get ready to spend hundreds on books!
Good luck!

Good luck!
