How can one compare students who took the SAT exam with students who took the ACT exam.?

Please share any details of how these tests are scored, and what average or exceptional scores for these tests would be. Thanks.
The ACT is scored from 1 to 36 and your composite score is the average of your four section scores (english, reading, math, science).

Each section of the SAT yields a score from 200 to 800 and your composite score is the sum of the three section scores (verbal reading, verbal writing and quantitative).

A conversion of ACT to SAT scores can be found on the following website:

The average SAT score is 1538 so anything above average is considered to be a good score (note that average means average for all college bound students not average for every high school student). An exceptional score is one that would place you in the middle 50% for most of the top colleges and universities.%0D%0A
